Nintendo DSi (2009)

The DSi is the third generation of Nintendo DS hardware. The DSi features more RAM, 2x 0.3MP cameras, a faster processor slimmer design without a GBA slot, bigger screens at 3.25 inches and improved wi-fi capabilities. The DSi also has upgradable firmaware. The firmware has been much improved over the original DS and DS Lite firmware. There is now special camera software which can be used for editing photos taken with one of the 2 cameras and a special music application for messing around with music or just listening to it normally. There is also the DSi Shop which allows you to download DSi software like the free DSi Browser and WarioWare: Snapped! When you first connect to the DSi Shop you will be given 1000 Nintendo points to start buying software from the DSi Shop. More points can be bought later through the DSi Shop with a credit card. The DSi also features a SD Card slot to add storage to the unit as well as 256MB of built in flash memory. You can use an SD card to store software, music or photos. The power switch from the DS Lite has been replaced with a button much like the original DS. The new power button allows you to go back to the main menu by pushing it once while in a piece of software whereas holding it in for a few seconds will power the unit off. You can also adjust the brightness while holding select and pressing one of the new volume buttons. The volume and brightness are controlled in a similar way to the Game Boy Micro. Overall I would say that the DSi is a worthy upgrade over the DS and DS Lite especially if you think you would make use of the new features provided with the DSi.
