Master System (1986)
The Master System was a very good and powerful console for its time. It sold best in Europe and Australia. It outsold its main rival Nintendos NES in Europe, Australia and the United Kingdom. It sold very poorly in the US and Japan. As a result of its popularity in the UK, it is very easy to pick one up from a second hand store. The most common version of the Master System is the redesigned Master System 2. You can find out more about it on its page in the Sega Section of the menu. The Master System was discontinued in 1996 the same time as its successor the Mega Drive. This was to give Sega some time to concentrate on its next generation console, the Sega Saturn. The Master System also took cards as well as cartridges. The cards go into the card slot on the front of the system. The cards hold one small game each. Despite the Master System selling poorly in most of the world, it still managed to sell 13 million units world wide.
