Xbox (2002)
The Xbox claims to blow away the PS2 and Game Cube and claims to be the best console for its time. It also has better graphics and HDTV support which gives it the advantage over graphics. The Xbox’s graphics are powered by nVidia famous for its GeForce series of graphics cards for computers. The Sega Dreamcast was the first console to use PC like components and a similarly coded OS system. The Xbox also uses PC like components like the Dreamcast. The Xbox has a DVD drive and allows playback of DVDs. The Xbox runs at 733MHz and claims to produce 150 to 200 million polygons per second. The Xbox also has a built in 8 GB hard drive which can be used to store Xbox Live downloads and save game files. On the back of the controller there is a port similar to that of the Nintendo 64 which can be used for a memory card. The memory card can be used to transfer save games from the hard drive to the memory card so that you can use your save games on another Xbox system. Microsoft claims that 60% of the Xbox’s games will be made by themselves which is relatively high considering they don’t make the best games for Windows. The Xbox was really expensive when it came out due to it being the same price in pounds than it was in dollars. Eventually the price was lowered in pounds and sales started to pick up in the UK. In 2005 nVidia discontinued the Xbox’s GPU and Microsoft started making the final adjustments to the Xbox 360 formally Xbox 2. The Xbox 360 was released in November 2005 and sold really well in the UK.
